Note: This lesson requires a 48-count crayon box or similarly shaped box.

The instructor teaches children the following method to reproduce a rectangle:

  1. Place a physical object of rectangular shape in front of the children.
  2. Ask children to draw three sides of the rectangle the size desired as in A.
  3. Ask children to look at the dimensions of the rectangle carefully and place the fourth line as in B.
  4. Repeat this with several additional objects until mastered.

The instructor:

  • Obtains a 48-count crayon box for this exercise.
  • Holds the crayon box with one face directed toward the children.
  • Asks children to identify the corresponding face (A-E) on the below image.
  • Repeats this for each face until children can readily recognize the faces.

The instructor:

  • Teaches children to hold the crayon box at arm's length and at eye level.
  • Asks each child to hold the crayon box to find face A.
  • Repeats the process for faces B-E.

The instructor:

  • Holds the crayon box with face A pointed toward the children.
  • Asks children to draw face A.
  • Repeats the process for faces B-E.

Children complete the following drill work:

  • Draw A from the middle image and turn it into A from the bottom image.
  • Repeat for B-E.
