Note: This lesson requires a 48-count crayon box or similarly shaped box.
The instructor teaches children the following method to reproduce a rectangle:
- Place a physical object of rectangular shape in front of the children.
- Ask children to draw three sides of the rectangle the size desired as in A.
- Ask children to look at the dimensions of the rectangle carefully and place the fourth line as in B.
- Repeat this with several additional objects until mastered.
The instructor:
- Obtains a 48-count crayon box for this exercise.
- Holds the crayon box with one face directed toward the children.
- Asks children to identify the corresponding face (A-E) on the below image.
- Repeats this for each face until children can readily recognize the faces.
The instructor:
- Teaches children to hold the crayon box at arm's length and at eye level.
- Asks each child to hold the crayon box to find face A.
- Repeats the process for faces B-E.
The instructor:
- Holds the crayon box with face A pointed toward the children.
- Asks children to draw face A.
- Repeats the process for faces B-E.
Children complete the following drill work:
- Draw A from the middle image and turn it into A from the bottom image.
- Repeat for B-E.
